About Sifu Gary Swan
Gary Swan has been a student of Kenpo for over 50 years and has been teaching in the San Antonio area since 1972 making him one of the most Senior Kenpo Instructors in the state of Texas. He holds the rank of Master of the Arts, 10th Degree Black Belt. He is the senior student of the highly respected Stephen LaBounty. He began his training in Stephen LaBounty's dojo in Fresno. That dojo produced what is known in Kenpo circles as "The Fresno Four": Stephen LaBounty, Tom Kelly, Richard "Huk" Planas, and Gary Swan...all Kenpo Legends.
Mr. Swan is president of the National Chinese Kenpo Karate Association, an organization that emphasizes the Chinese aspects of Kenpo. Mr. Swan has expanded his knowledge of Chinese martial arts by studying with well known Hung Gar instructor Buck Sam Kong and learning traditional Chinese empty hand and weapons forms. Mr. Swan also has an extensive background in acupuncture.
Mr. Swan is a retired Army Command Sergeant Major with 30 years of infantry service. He has been certified by the state of Texas since 1995 to teach the concealed carry handgun license class.
